Jay Jackson is an American television actor and jazz musician who portrayed News Anchorman Mike Waters on ABC's Scandal.

Background

Jay was trained at the prestigious LoDuca Brothers Music Academy in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He is one of the most sought after jazz vocalists in Los Angeles. He has performed in venues such as The Vino Jazz Festival, NOLA's, Red, White and Bluezz and the Hollywood Studio Bar and Grille. His voice is becoming a familiar treat for L.A. jazz fans.

He is also becoming a respected jazz historian, whose encyclopedia knowledge of jazz vocal history is impressive. He has been a life-long Green Bay Packers fan.

He got into the acting business through a company he owns called the Los Angeles Reporter's Clinic. He told Agenda Magazine, "We help people break in to the business of TV news reporting. One of my clients was an actor who needed a demo reel for a part she was trying to get. She hooked me up with her manager who started sending me auditions. I only wanted auditions for newscaster parts."

Career Background

Jay has performed in shows with some of the biggest names in jazz; ranging from Nancy Wilson (at the Vino Jazz Festival), to Barbara Morrison (at Pips), to Oleta Adams and Poncho Sanchez (at the Barclay Theatre).

As an actor he is best known for his recurring role on Parks and Recreation as Perd Hapley. But the majority of his credits include portraying media related characters on various television series.

His few television credits include appearances on Body of Proof (2012), The Mentalist (2011), The Closer (2008) and Dexter (2007). He also made small media-related appearances in two feature films: Battleship in 2012 and Fast Five in 2011.
