She graduated from the Asheville School in 1987, Yale University in 1991, and the British American Drama Academy at Oxford University in England.
Early in her career Bellamy, still Amy Young at the time, starred in several Broadway shows including Cy Coleman's award winning musical The Life and Randy Newman’s Faust. She was also in Stephen Sodheim's Merrily We Roll Along and Landford Wilson's Book of Days.
In 1995 she made her television debut in the recurring role of the NBC soap opera Another World as Dr. Courtney Evans. She has gone on to guest star on numerous television shows including ER, Fraiser, Law and Order, The West Wing, NCIS, Two and a Half Men, The Mentalist, and Castle. Her film credits included We Were Soldiers, Mission: Impossible III, and The Cottage. Bellamy had recurring roles on American Dreams, Scrubs, CSI: Miami, and Dirty Sexy Money and Criminal Minds as Beth Clemmons.
You can catch Bellamy's award winning perfomance as First Lady Mellie Grant Thursday nights on Shonda Rhimes' hit political thriller, Scandal and in Zoe Cassavetes' film, Day out of Days. Young has also released an adult contemporary album, Far Away So Close, that includes covers of Fleetwood Mac, Tom Waits and Ryan Adams.
